An AK-47 was recovered from one of the slain Maoists, believed to be dalam commander Gopal alias Azad. Gopal carried a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head. The three are yet to be officially identified.

A massive search and combing operation has been launched in the area to nab the others. Officials said that security had been tightened after Maoists had called for a bandh in the areas bordering East Godavari, Khammam and Visakhapatnam on Wednesday against police operations, and that during a routine patrol the APSP personnel came across the Maoists camping in the forest. On February 21, two Maoists were killed in an encounter with APSP in the same area.
