An 18-year-old student, who also worked as an AC mechanic, died after falling from the terrace of a five-storey building after he was reportedly chased by two pet dogs of a resident, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Thakurpukur area of South-24 Parganas district Tuesday night. The youth has been identified as Gaurav Purakit, a resident of Charaktala area in the district.

The owner of the dogs and the man who hired Purakit have been arrested.

According to the police, Tapas Kumar Ghoshal, a resident of Diptikona Apartment, had hired Gaurav and his friend Tarun Purakit to install an AC on Tuesday. In the evening, the duo sought to leave, but Ghoshal reportedly insisted that they should complete the task.

While they were working on the terrace, another resident, Sumit Bhattacharya, arrived with his pet dogs — Alsatians.
