CBI may take over probe into murder of Bihar journalist Rajdev Ranjan

Sources from the agency said a team will soon leave for Siwan after it registers a case in the matter.

The CBI is likely to take over investigation into the murder of journalist Rajdev Ranjan, the Siwan bureau chief of Hindustan. The case was being investigated by Bihar police before the state government issued a notification, transferring the case to CBI.

Sources from the agency said a team will soon leave for Siwan after it registers a case in the matter.

Shahabuddin, who was recently released on bail, has been under the scanner in the case, sources said.

Asha Ranjan, wife of the slain journalist, on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court, seeking a CBI probe into his murder. In her petition, she accused Shahabuddin and Bihar Health Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s son Tej Pratap Yadav of “conspiring, harbouring and sheltering proclaimed offenders” in the case.

The petition has cited photographs where a suspect in the Rajdev Ranjan murder case is seen with Shahabuddin and Tej Pratap. The plea has also sought the transfer of the probe and trial in the case from Siwan to Delhi.

Ranjan was shot dead on the evening of May 13 in Siwan town.

Meanwhile, the office of advocate Prashant Bhushan has said Chandrakeshwar Prasad, whose three sons were allegedly murdered by Shahabuddin, will file an appeal in the apex court, challenging the Patna High Court’s order of bail to the former RJD MP.
