After spending almost an hour inside DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi’s office, AAP leaders Ashish Khaitan, Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Dilip Pandey said he had denied access to the documents.

Second day in a row, AAP fails to get hands on PM Modi marksheet The AAP leaders, who had an appointment with the VC in the afternoon, said he also declined to comment on the statement made by DU Registrar Tarun Das that Modi’s degree was “authentic”.

Aam Aadmi Party leaders who headed to Delhi University Wednesday wanting to scrutinise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bachelor’s degree marks and stint as a correspondence student said they returned empty-handed for the second day in a row.

After spending almost an hour inside DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi’s office, AAP leaders Ashish Khaitan, Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Dilip Pandey said he had denied access to the documents. On Tuesday, they had spent more than an hour outside his office to “meet a responsible official” and inspect files and registers relating to Modi’s marks as a student in 1974-78.

The AAP leaders, who had an appointment with the VC in the afternoon, said he also declined to comment on the statement made by DU Registrar Tarun Das that Modi’s degree was “authentic”.

“When we asked about the Registrar’s remarks, the VC said do not talk about someone who is not present,” claimed Singh. He also claimed the VC said he could not give access to the documents and records, and the Central Public Information Officer had to take a call on allowing inspection of the documents. The AAP leaders claimed the VC “seemed stressed and scared”, and mentioned “pressure” on him over the issue.

After the meeting, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Jaitley ji and Amit Shah ji, after showing papers in PC, said — now go see it in DU. Now VC refuses? What is so secret about PM’s degree?” His reference was to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP president Amit Shah releasing copies of Modi’s degrees at a press conference and their remarks.

The VC and the Registrar could not be reached for comment despite several attempts. DU spokesperson Malay Neerav said the VC had ordered that only the Registrar would be dealing with the media on this issue.

Before meeting the VC, the AAP leaders held a press conference questioning the statement made by the Registrar to a TV channel Tuesday evening and alleged that DU officials were “under pressure” from the BJP. “… The Registrar’s statement has nothing to do with what is there in the degree,” said the AAP leaders.

The AAP also alleged that Maharashtra-based activist Anil Galgali had filed an RTI application in September 2015 asking for records of all students who graduated from DU in 1978, but the university claimed “it did not maintain three to four decade-old records”. “If the DU had not lied in their reply to Galgali, how have they dug out Modi’s degree and marksheets now? Either they were lying then or they are lying now,” said the AAP leaders.

Singh said the AAP “has all the proof” of the forgery of documents, and would approach whichever probe agency required to “take this issue to its logical conclusion”.

The AAP raised eight questions about the validity of the marksheets released by Shah and Jaitley. Among the questions was one highlighting the display of “computer typed marksheet” when there were no computers in India in 1978. “Bill Gates must have sent a computer specially at the time knowing that Modi ji will become PM in 2014, so his degree needs to be printed now,” said AAP spokesperson Ashutosh.

The AAP pointed out the marks of other persons who graduated in 1978 were handwritten, while the marksheets for Narendra Damodardas Modi were “printed”.
