Sandeep Kumar, who was sacked from the Cabinet after an ‘objectionable’ CD allegedly featuring him surfaced Wednesday, said Thursday he was being targeted because he is a Dalit.
Demanding an inquiry into the matter, Kumar said, “This is a conspiracy. And this conspiracy is being hatched because I am a Dalit. I am a Dalit from the Valmiki community and there has been no minister from the Valmiki community. I come from a poor family. The poor are always trapped. Every time we rise, there are conspiracies to crush us. I am being targeted because I have set up a statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar in my house… I am ready for every agni-pariksha (trial by fire).”
Kumar said his image was being tarnished without testing the veracity of the footage being aired by TV channels.
“I vehemently deny this. This is a subject of inquiry. Nobody has probed anything… I am very disturbed by this. The channels showing the video are saying they have not checked its authenticity. The man (in the footage) is slightly built, I weigh 150 kg and I have always been this heavy. Some say it is two months old, three months old… the authenticity of the video needs to be checked. I am being subjected to a media trial,” said Kumar.
Meanwhile, in a video released by AAP, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Kumar had “betrayed” his party.
“I am deeply saddened by what has happened. There are so many people who made sacrifices for our movement. He has betrayed that movement. AAP was the only hope the people in the country had. He has betrayed that hope. We will never compromise on our core values. We would rather die,” he said.
“Some people may wonder that if such people have started joining AAP, then how is it different from other parties… We never cover up when we get evidence of any wrongdoing. AAP takes action as soon as we get any evidence. That distinguishes us from other political parties. It is sad that such people (Kumar) were with AAP… there was a bad fish among us but
we have removed it,”
Kejriwal said in the nine-minute video.
He said AAP would soon decide what action it will take against Kumar.
