NEARLY SEVEN months after Haryana gangster Sandeep Gadoli was allegedly shot dead by a team of Gurgaon police, his family finally claimed his remains from the JJ hospital Thursday evening. The family had refused to collect his remains earlier protesting against what they believed was a shoddy probe by the Mumbai Police in the case.

The family said they were not completely satisfied by the probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) even now, and would demand that the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“I am collecting the remains of my brother as I have managed to collect enough evidence that should help bring those behind my brothers killing to book. We are not happy with the SIT probe and will be asking for the case to be transferred to the CBI,” said Sudesh Kataria, Sandeep’s sister. She added that an elder family member was not in the best of health and they did not want to delay the cremation any further.

The last rites would be performed in Haryana, Kataria said.

Sandeep’s family believes the SIT “deliberately” did not include names of other senior officers, including an ACP, in the case. “In spite of having the CCTV footage, it took the Mumbai Police nearly three months to register an FIR against the accused person. That itself shows they did not want to bring the accused to book,” said Kataria.

Gadoli, who had over 30 cases registered against him, was shot dead by Gurgaon police sub inspector Pradhuman Yadav’s team inside Hotel Airport Metro, located near Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, on February 7. While the Gurgaon police team had claimed they fired in self-defence, the SIT formed by the Mumbai Police concluded that the encounter was fake. The SIT filed an FIR against eight persons, including five policemen from Gurgaon. Gadoli’s family had alleged that a rival gangster in Haryana had paid the Gurgaon police team to eliminate Gadoli.
