Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said those who had tried to create trouble by raking up issues like ‘love jihad’ and cow slaughter have been silenced by the people of Uttar Pradesh. In an apparent reference to BJP’s Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath, the CM said “they follow religion but know nothing about religion” while asserting that the “real temple is the temple of education”.

“Several parties which were talking on cow, ‘love jihad’ and other religious issues are silent now as they have been given a befitting reply in the state,” Yadav said at a function held at Madan Mohan Malviya Technical University in Gorakhpur.

“They tried to create trouble in Jhansi where Hindus and Muslims were living peacefully. On several occasions, they tried to incite trouble… we got him (referring to Adityanath) arrested and sent him to Delhi,” the CM said. He added that “now (leaders like Adityanath) are not left with any issue” as “cow issue is finished and ‘love jihad’ has lost steam”.

“I will only say that let us talk about development and not about fighting. We are going to run Metro in Lucknow, you start it in Gorakhpur, at least do something. Real temple is the temple of education,” Akhilesh said.

In an advisory note to the BJP, the CM remarked: “If the sun sets at one place, then it also rises somewhere else.”

He also targetted the Centre over “creating obstacles in the path of development”. “We gave land for AIIMS in Gorakhpur but it was rejected. We sent another proposal but the Centre rejected it again saying there is no approach road (in Gorakhpur). If the Centre so wants, the state government is ready to make a four-lane approach road. But their main concern is creating obstacles and not development,” he alleged.

Akhilesh also said that he was “aware of the issues related to Gita Press” and “sincerely wants to help and resolve it”.

Claiming that Gorakhpur and the adjoining areas “are in the grip of Japanese Encephalitis”, he said the medical facilities were being upgraded. “Soon, Cobalt Machine and MRI facility will be started in Gorakhpur Medical College,” he said, and stressed that AIIMS in Gorakhpur is a “must”.

On the occasion, Akhilesh also highlighted several development schemes of his government, including the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Metro and Samajwadi Pension Scheme among others. He also felicitated 27 meritorious students with gold medals and laid the foundation stone for 18 other projects on the campus.
