

Pathankot was put on high alert on Tuesday after Punjab Police received inputs of suspicious looking men moving in the area. A massive search operation is currently underway as alert has been sounded in the state. Police have found an abandoned Army fatigue, cap and belt, news channel India Today reported.
Around 400 security personnel including SWAT team were deployed for conducting the search operation by the Punjab police in the district where terrorist from across the border had struck the IAF airbase in January.
“There was a specific input about the presence of some suspicious men roaming around on Pathankot-Dalhousie road. Following this, a massive search operation has been launched here,” Pathankot SSP Rakesh Kaushal said.
“Area has been cordoned off on Pathankot-Dalhousie road to locate suspects,” he said. Army has also been alerted and there is a heightened
vigil, police said.

On Monday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in her reply to Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly said India offered friendship, but got Pathankot and Uri in return. Earlier this month, four terrorists attacked an Army camp in Uri, killing 18 jawans. The attack heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
On January 2, terrorists infiltrated the Pathankot Air Base and were involved in a standoff with security forces. Five terrorists were killed in the standoff, and 7 security personnel and a civilian lost their lives in the attack.
