Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Eastern Uttar Pradesh for the second time this month to address BJP’s Parivartan Yatra rally in Kushinagar district. Saying that his government is dedicated to the poor, PM Modi thanked public for their support in granting him 50 days to normalise the cash crunch situation. He said India must gradually move towards a cashless economy and reduce its dependency on paper cash. PM Modi also took a swipe at the Opposition parties’ call for countrywide protest against demonetisation. “We talk about ending black money and corruption, they (opposition) talk about shutting down the country,” he said.

On November 14, he was in Ghazipur district to inaugurate various government projects. PM Modi used the occasion to speak on demonetisation and asked the public to give him 50 days to improve the cash crunch situation. Saying that he was ready to face any punishment in case the move failed, he said it cannot succeed without public support. The prime minister broke down when he recalled of the time he had left his family and home behind for the sake of the nation. He also hit out at his detractors and warned of tougher measures against curbing black money. PM Modi said his government will be targeting benami property holders next. Eastern UP holds particular significance for the BJP. Out of 18 Lok Sabha constituencies of Eastern UP, BJP had won all in 2014 Parliamentary elections except for Azamgarh that went to SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
