Mukul Roy hosts leaders of ‘new party’, dodges query on joining

Roy hosted a lunch at his South Avenue residence for “leaders” of the prospective party.

Sidelined Trinamool Congress MP and the party’s former general secretary Mukul Roy on Monday came out in the open with applicants of the Nationalist Trinamool Congress which has applied for registration with the Election Commission. Roy hosted a lunch at his South Avenue residence for “leaders” of the prospective party.

Asked whether he plans to quit Trinamool and join the new party, Roy replied: “That is the million dollar question”. He was speaking to reporters at his residence and was flanked by Amitabha Majumdar, Pradeep Ghosh, both of whom are applicants for registration of the new party.

Suspended Trinamool MLA Shilabhadra Dutta, too, was present. Officially, Roy is in the Capital for a meeting of the Parliamentary consultative committee on urban development.
