Speaking in 23rd chapter of Mann Ki Baat radio programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched various subjects including the importance of Teacher’s Day.
“Teachers are as important as mothers in our lives. They spend their lives caring for their students. For me, September 5 is not only Teachers Day but a day of learning as well,” said PM Modi.
PM Modi also lauded PV Sindhu’s badminton coach Pullela Gopichand as a “great teacher” for his contribution to the nation and for being the ace shuttler’s mentor. “Gopichand, who is Sindhu’s coach has proved that he is a great teacher. I salute to him for his dedication and submission to the game,” said PM Modi.
“Even as a President, Dr S Radhakrishnan looked upon himself as a teacher; always kept the student in him alive,” the PM added.
The prime minister said he was touched by students in Chhattisgarh who wrote letters asking for toilets in their homes. PM Modi said Karnataka’s Mallamma too set a great example by her satyagraha for getting a toilet in her home.
On an ending note on the topic, the PM also said the teachers of the nation should be acknowledged for their contributions. “It is our responsibility to acknowledge the efforts of all our teachers and give them their due recognition,” said Modi.
