Man killed in Burdwan village blast

The police are trying to find how the bombs were assembled, and the raw material used, to get more clues about the possible culprits.

A POWERFUL explosion ripped through the ceiling and walls of a local club in the sleepy village of Sribati, in West Bengal’s Burdwan district, early Monday morning. It left one person dead and led to the recovery of nearly 40 bombs from a room in the part of the structure that escaped the blast’s impact.

Prima facie, the police suspect the bombs were stored inside the club and one of them went off accidentally. The police are trying to find how the bombs were assembled, and the raw material used, to get more clues about the possible culprits.

The bomb disposal squad later found nearly 40 crude bombs and defused them, police said.

Calling it a “case of explosion of countrymade bomb”, IG (Law and Order) Anuj Sharma said, “The CID will probe the case. No arrest has been made as of now.”

Based on the statement of the victim’s wife, Chabili Bibi, a complaint was registered by Katwa Thana police against three people — allegedly CPI(M) workers — who are absconding. The three people against whom the complaint was filed were allegedly seen moving around the club.
