EVEN as police arrested another person on charges of sedition in Kishtwar, the situation in the hill town seemed to be fast returning to normal with the district administration relaxing curfew for two hours between 4 pm to 6 pm Monday. Curfew was imposed following tension over the arrest of three people on sedition charges Saturday.
On Sunday night, police raided a house on Faridiya road and arrested one Aijaz Ahmed Kilam, an employee of the Sheep Husbandry Department posted at Marwah.
Kilam was also wanted by police for raising “anti-India” slogans during recent protests in the town following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. With this, the total number of people arrested on charges of sedition has risen to four.
During the night raids Saturday, police arrested three people, including the Imam of a local mosque and a Hurriyat leader. Of them, two have been sent to jail. However, a key accused, Qari Manzoor, Imam of the Banstan Jama Masjid, is still at large.
