THE Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) officially started selling its new uniform at its two premises here Monday. The organisation plans to formally adopt the new uniform at its annual Vijayadashmi programme on October 11.
It will be the first Vijayadashmi where swayamsevaks will be seen in khaki trousers that were decided upon to replace the half pants earlier this year. For waist size 20-24, sources in the RSS said, a pair of trousers would cost Rs 250. Swayamsevaks will have to pay Rs 10 more for every additional 2 inches.
While RSS members did not confirm as to how many sets of uniforms were made available to the two premises — Smruti Mandir and Mahal Karyalay — swayamsevaks could be seen steadily trickling in to pick up their new sets.
Earlier, it was reported in the media that the Sangh had requisitioned about 10,000 sets. There are, however, many places where RSS uniforms are stitched on bulk orders.
“Swayamsevaks were instructed not to get their trousers stitched from outside since nobody was aware of the exact pattern of the trousers. So, all the trousers will be initially distributed by the RSS itself. Subsequently, however, the swayamsevaks can get that pattern of trousers stitched if and when the need arises,” said a senior functionary.
Asked how swayamsevaks from outside Nagpur would get the trousers, he said, “It was decided that the Shakhas would place their orders with the Nagpur headquarter, from where it would be supplied to them as per the demand.”
