
National Commission for Women chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam met Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi Monday to express dissatisfaction with the state government’s handling of the investigation into the rape and murder of a Dalit law student.

She asked Zaidi to ensure a fair probe into the incident, which took place at Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district.

Kumaramangalam also handed over a letter to Zaidi, which spoke of the “reprehensible conduct of the Kerala government in trying to cover up the seriousness of this dreadful crime” against a Dalit woman.
The letter asks the Election Commission to take “serious note of the issue which can easily escalate into a serious law and order matter.”
