Days after a Dalit college student was allegedly raped and murdered in Bikaner, another case of an alleged rape of a Dalit minor has surfaced in Jodhpur. The girl has also accused the police of mistreating her.
In her complaint, the minor has claimed that she was abducted by some unknown persons on March 23 from her village, Kukarda in Bhopalgarh near Jodhpur. She was later found by the police, who she told that she was raped.
On Monday, relatives of the girl, flanked by activists of All India Democratic Women’s Association and Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch, held a press conference and accused the police of mistreating her.
“The victim said some police personnel at Bhopalgarh police station beat her up and forced her to sign on blank sheet of papers. They also threatened her with dire consequences if she spoke out against the perpetrator of the crime,” Kishan Meghwal of the DSMM said.

Harendra Kumar, SP Jodhpur (rural), told The Indian Express that the allegation of police excess were found to be untrue, though they have recorded the girl’s statement under Section 164 of the CrPC before a magistrate.
“One person has been arrested in the case. The activists and some persons claiming to be distant relatives of the girl were demanding the arrest of more people. We assured them that we will investigate the case and act accordingly,” Kumar said.
“About police excess, we have not found any conclusive evidence,” the SP added.
