J&K: Army foils inflitration bid in Akhnoor sector, jawan succumbs to injuries in crossfire

One Army soldier sustained a bullet wound during the exchange of fire. He was immediately evacuated to hospital, but he succumbed to injuries en route.

A soldier was killed in Akhnoor sector while foiling an infiltration bid from across the Line of Control on late Tuesday evening.

Identified as Launce Naik Rajinder Singh of 2 RAJ Rifles, sources said that he was part of an army patrol who noticed movement by some people near the border. On being challenged, they opened fire making the Indian troops to retaliate.

The infiltrators later fled back to the Pakistani side, but one Army soldier sustained a bullet wound during the exchange of fire. He was immediately evacuated to hospital, but he succumbed to injuries en route.

The troops have cordoned the area and launched combing operation to rule out presence of any infiltrator on the Indian side.
