Punjab Congress on Monday accused AAP spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira of being a fence sitter.
The jibe comes after Khaira on Sunday dared the Congress to prove allegations of illegal funding against the party.
“If fence sitting was an event in Olympics, India would be assured of one gold at least with someone like you, who has mastered the art (of fence sitting), representing the country,” the party said in a statement signed by Rana Gurjeet Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Navtej Singh Cheema and Ramanjit Singh Sikki. The party claimed Khaira first demanded action against AAP former state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur and then siding with him later.
The party said Khaira was first to sign the letter to the AAP high command demanding action against Chhotepur. “And the moment he realised that this was not liked by Punjabis, he took a u-turn in his characteristic style and started defending Chhotepur,” it read.
The Congress leaders said, it was not for the first time that Khaira had resorted to such fence sitting and u-turns, saying, earlier when Capt Amarinder Singh was appointed the PCC president “he was all in praise for him”. They pointed out how Khaira went on saying that only Capt Amarinder could take Punjab out of its ills and set the ruling Akalis and Badals right.
“And within a few months when he joined the AAP, he started criticising and finding faults with Capt Amarinder”, they pointed out, while referring to the inconsistency in his stand and character and predicting that he was likely to take many more u-turns within the AAP depending on what turn the events take there.
