The Awaz-e-Punjab Monday decided to seek a pre-poll alliance with either the Congress or AAP in Punjab. The outfit had earlier claimed that it would work to end the “Badal-Amarinder” nexus in the state.
Awaz-e-Punjab founding member Navjot Singh Sidhu had last week vowed to root out the “Badal-Amarinder nexus”. But the latest turn of events was confirmed by Independent MLA Simarjit Singh Bains, who is part of the new front. Sidhu, Bains added, was already in touch with senior leaders of opposition parties in the state.
Asked about the sudden change of heart regarding the Congress, he added: “Sidhu was categorical in saying he would work against the Amarinder-Badal nexus. He did not say anything against the Congress. Possibilities are immense. Just wait and watch.”
His elder brother, Balwinder Singh Bains, also an Independent MLA, said: “We will contest elections. I can only say that we will not just contest from two constituencies represented by us. It will be from many others also.”
