Driver injured in Naxal attack to be employed by Jharkhand govt

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Thursday directed Pakur district administration to appoint Dhanraj Maraiya as a Class 4 employee after he lost his limb in a naxal attack.

Maraiya was driving the vehicle that was attacked by naxals in which the then Superintendent of Police (Pakur), Amarjit Balihar, and five other policemen were killed in Dumka district on July 2, 2013.

Recently, Maraiya had met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, when he had come to Ranchi to inaugurate a camp for the Jharkhand Jaguar (the Special Task Force) on June 28. Singh had assured that his case would be looked into.

“Das asked Pakur Deputy Commissioner to appoint Maraiya on a Class 4 position in a district level office of any department, as a special case,” said an official statement.

Maraiya had sustained gunshot injuries in his right leg, which had to be amputated later. Since then, Maraiya was without any proper source of income. He had petitioned several government offices for help, but to no avail. On June 28, he got a call from one of the aides of the Home Minister and met him. Hearing his case, Rajnath Singh assured that his case would be looked into.
