Demonetisation would be their main plank in the upcoming Assembly election, said state BJP president Vijay Sampla on Wednesday, also indicating that around a dozen state BJP leaders, who contested the last election, may be replaced this time, including those who have crossed 70 years of age. Sampla, also Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, attended a video conference with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on demonetisation at the Circuit House here in the evening.

In a chat with mediapersons here, the state BJP chief said “corruption” and “black money” were the main issues for the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was very clear about eradicating it which led him to take this bold step of demonetisation and certainly it would be among the main planks of the party in the coming polls.

When asked about the announcement of the party’s election manifesto, he said they would constitute a committee soon to prepare it. He said he favoured a practical manifesto and not just misleading people with lies.

When questioned about the announcement of party candidates in Punjab when their alliance partner, SAD, had already announced nominees for 69 of the 93 seats in their share, Sampla said they would also declare candidates by December-end and leaders over 70 years may not get nomination.

Later, he attended a video conference along with several senior state BJP leaders and Jaitley. In the 20-25 minute session, the state BJP leaders told Jaitley about the inconvenience being faced by the people of the state due to inadequate supply of new currency notes. The BJP leaders from 34 places across the country were connected to the finance minister through this conference.
