Why are you opposing the demonetisation?
We are not opposing any action against black money, no Opposition party is against it. But such attempts should not be half-baked and lead to inconvenience to people… This sudden, unplanned move is like jumping out of a moving train.
What is your primary objection?
The government should not have opted for a hurried decision, and it should explain why it did it.
As a chief minister, she had already taken an appointment with the President. She went there as she felt that it would not be good to not meet him after taking an appointment. As far as Opposition unity is concerned, we are all on the same page. For the first time, the BSP and SP took part in an Opposition meeting to plan strategy.
What do you want the government to do?
The government must take serious steps to ease the pressure on the poor. The queues outside ATMs and banks must not be that long, and people standing in queues should be able to get cash.
Why is the Opposition demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee?
The government must agree to setting up a JPC to examine the decision. There are complaints that the decision was leaked before the announcement to benefit some… JPC will have representatives from all parties. So it will ensure fair play.
