The Shiv Sena may have backed the Maratha agitation but a cartoon published in its mouthpiece Saamana that lampooned the silent marches has riled the community. The three-panelled cartoon showcases various category of protesters. One of the panel shows a male protester kissing a female.
A section of Marathas took exception to the cartoon and protested outside the house of cartoonist Shriniwas Prabhudesai in Vile Parle. Copies of Saamana were burnt in various parts of the state, with protesters claiming that the paper had disrespected the community’s agitation.
In Jalgaon, NCP MLA Satish Patil took to the streets to protest. Rajya Sabha MP Sambhajiraje Bhosale also criticised it.
The Shiv Sena, meanwhile, chose to remain silent on the controversy.
