Buldhana rape prime accused, a sweeper, wasn’t on school’s payroll

Was being paid ‘salary’ by arrested clerk who never turned up for duty as he is the village sarpanch: Police

THE man accused of raping a minor girl in an ashram school in Khamgaon taluka of Buldhana district wasn’t on the school’s payroll and was being paid “salary” by one of the 15 people arrested in the case so far, who was appointed as a clerk but never turned up for work, police said. An SIT has been set up to probe the case.

“The main culprit, Ittu Singh Pawar, who worked as a sweeper at the school, was sent there by Anil Kokare, who was appointed as a clerk but never worked as he was also the village sarpanch,” SIT chief Arti Singh told The Indian Express.

Kokare was one of the four persons made accused on Saturday, a day after 11 people were arrested in the case. He was paying Ittu Singh a monthly amount for working as a sweeper at the school. “This fact was known to the management and school staffers,” said Arti Singh. Another girl, studying in Class VI, too has lodged a complaint against Ittu Singh. Investigators fear there could be more victims. “It will take a while to know that since the girls are away on Diwali vacation. We are tying to visit their villages and enquire,” said Arti Singh.
