President Michel Temer invites PM Modi to Brazil, hails ties between the two countries

Temer was speaking at the joint conference of Indian and Brazilian delegates held in Goa.

Brazilian President Michel Temer, while stressing the importance of the bilateral meeting between India and Brazil, said Monday that the South American country was very much in tune with the priorities of the Narendra Modi administration. Temer was speaking at a joint press meet of Indian and Brazilian delegations in Goa and also invited PM Modi to visit the country.

“We (Brazil) trust the integration between the business communities and the governments of India and Brazil. In this regard, we have invited PM Modi to visit Brazil,” said Temer while addressing the joint conference which followed signing of bilateral agreements between the two countries.

Temer also said both India and Brazil shared similar areas of interest and would expand bilateral ties based on those areas.

“Despite the geographical distance, India and Brazil share the same set of values and objectives. We shall send technical missions to India in the relevant areas of joint interests and expand bilateral relation in these areas,” Temer said.

The Brazilian President also spoke about the efforts of both countries to make a global impact saying,”We have agreed to enhance our roles in the United Nations keeping in mind our global presence.”

Following PM Modi’s invitation for Brazilian companies to invest in India, Temer said there was interest in the business community in Brazil to invest in India.

“There is keen interest in the business community in Brazil to invest in India. Likewise we are encouraging members of the Indian business community to invest in Brazil,” Temer said.

He also extended Brazil’s support for India-launched International Solar Alliance (ISA) and also said that the visit was helpful in strengthening strategic partnerships between the two countries.

Earlier in the meet, PM Modi had hailed Brazil as the most important economic partner in Latin America and acknowledged the increasing bilateral relations between India and Brazil. He also said the two countries were close to finalizing the text of a bilateral investment agreement.
