According to Left sources, the police had given permission for the rally on November 13, but at the time of the campaigning, TMC activists allegedly attempted to stop the march. “Mishra showed that he had valid documents,” said a senior CPI(M) leader.

Following reports about the attack on Mishra, thousands of party activists agitated in central Kolkata on Thursday evening. The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the agitators and arrested party’s central committee member Shyamal Chakraborty and party MLA and Left Front Legislative Party (LFLP) leader Sujan Chakraborty from central Kolkata.
