AAP protest in grain markets comes a cropper

The protest was to be held from 11 am to 2 pm and AAP volunteers were to get ‘Karza Mukti forms’ filled from farmers in the mandies along with the distribution of ‘Kisan and Labour’ manifesto of the party.

AAP’s protest in the grain markets of Jalandhar and Kapurthala on Monday saw thin attendance that party insiders attributed to “communication gap” between the leadership and cadre.

The protest was to be held from 11 am to 2 pm and AAP volunteers were to get ‘Karza Mukti forms’ filled from farmers in the mandies along with the
distribution of ‘Kisan and Labour’ manifesto of the party. All volunteers were supposed to attend these dharnas.

Watch what else is making news:

In Jalandhar’s main grain market not even a dozen AAP leaders and volunteers were present during dharna. Five party politicians, including Major
Singh, Rajiv Chaudhary, Atam Parkash Babloo, Gulshan Sharam and Darshan Bhagat, and a few workers of the grain market were present for
the dharna.

In Kapurthala, there were no protests as AAP leaders claimed that there were no issues surrounding payments in their area, a claim that farmers here did not agree with.

A senior party politician said the protest message was flashed to them on WhatsApp groups last evening on the behalf of state convener Gurpreet Singh “Ghuggi” Waraich. This late warning did not give them enough time to arrange a protest, he said.

When contacted AAP’s Jalandhar media in-charge Sukhdeep Apra said that he was not aware since he was not in the city.

AAP’s Punjab spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that he was busy in the a party campaign in his area and there was no protest in their area mandi. He admitted that payments of the farmers were delayed for past two weeks. Farmers lamented that they were still waiting for their payments since October 20.
