Quran desecration case: AAP MLA Naresh Yadav sent to judicial custody till August 1

Police stated they needed to conduct further investigation as Yadav, the MLA from Mehrauli in Delhi, and the key accused in the case, Vijay Kumar, had 13 telephonic conversations in a month.

A court Wednesday rejected Sangrur police says plea for three-day police remand of AAP MLA Naresh Yadav, arrested for his alleged involvement in the desecration of the Quran in Malerkotla last month, and sent him to judicial custody till August 1.

Police stated they needed to conduct further investigation as Yadav, the MLA from Mehrauli in Delhi, and the key accused in the case, Vijay Kumar, had 13 telephonic conversations in a month. However, the court of Preeti Sukheja, additional civil judge, Malerkotla, rejected their plea for three-day police remand.

The AAP, meanwhile, moved a bail application for Yadav. “There is no direct evidence against our MLA and we have applied for bail in the Malerkotla court. It will come up for hearing on July 28,” said Himmat Singh Shergill, legal cell in-charge of AAP, Punjab. “We are hopeful that Yadav will get bail tomorrow, as police have no proof against him,” he said.
