Slamming Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh at his home turf of Patiala and describing AAP as a “fraud”, Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal Tuesday urged SAD workers to ensure a hat-trick of victories in the 2017 assembly polls.
At a Sadhbhawna rally, Sukhbir said the upcoming assembly polls would see three contenders for the CM post — his father and incumbent CM Parkash Singh Badal, Amarinder and AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Of the three, Sukhbir said his father was the best bet to lead the state again. “(Capt) does nothing. He was CM for five years but how many times he visited the constituency. Will the people of Patiala tell me if Capt steps out of his mahal and meets them. He does not know the problems of farmers and traders; only Badal sahib knows these problems,” he said.
“Another party has emerged from a pit. Kejriwal is AAP’s CM candidate. The party has held power in Delhi for a year. What have they done? The biggest fraud party today is AAP,” Sukhbir said. “Punjab government’s budget for advertisement is Rs 20 crore annually. The annual budget of Delhi government for advertisement is Rs 500 crore. All for publicity of Kejriwal,” he added, slamming AAP for increasing salaries of MLAs, providing gunmen and other staff to them and alleging that several of them were facing cases.
The deputy CM also listed populist measures his government had taken.
Sukhbir also promised more tube well connections, road connectivity, basic amenities and infrastructure development.
“We can sacrifice our head to keep our word,” Sukhbir said, reminding the gathering how Amarinder had “imposed tube well bills”.
CM Parkash Singh Badal, on the other hand, declared that the Patiala rally was not aimed at any “confrontation” with Amarinder and urged the Congress veteran to also shun the “politics of confrontation”.
He, however, took a jibe at Amarinder’s “coronation” as Punjab Congress president in Bathinda, saying it reflected his “autocratic mindset”.
