Attacking the BJP for not fulfilling its electoral promises made in 2012 Assembly elections regarding construction of 50 lakh housing units for poor and lower middle-classes in five years, state Congress Saturday said that this amounts to being “dishonest” with the people.

State party spokesperson Himanshu Patel said that BJP incorporated in its electoral manifesto its promise to build 50 lakh houses after Congress party announced the proposed scheme in its manifesto and also showed the sample houses. The Congress party had also issued application forms stating that these applications would be valid if the party came to power and lakhs of people from all over the state also filled up the forms. Patel said that state BJP government, after coming to power again, however, did not build even 20 per cent of the promised number of houses in the last four years. “Does not it amount to cheating with the people because the party had taken votes on several promises, one of them being construction of 50 lakh housing units?,” asked Patel. The Congress leader said that the BJP had also promised to make state free of slums. “This promise also remains unfulfilled by the BJP,” he points out.
