REPORTING THAT people’s patience is slowly wearing off as cash crunch drags on, several units and affiliates of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have reportedly suggested senior functionaries of the Sangh and the BJP that either cash inflow should be increased at the earliest or the Uttar Pradesh elections should be delayed.  The continuing cash crunch could adversely impact the BJP’s prospects in the Assembly polls, due next year, they are learnt to have reported to senior Sangh and BJP functionaries.

These units are believed to have given the feedback that BJP sympathisers among the middle class were initially happy over demonetisation but have now started criticising the decision, as banks and ATMs report shortage of cash even a month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced it on November 8.

According to sources, office-bearers of these affiliates — the VHP and ABVP, among others — submitted their feedback during a coordination meeting of RSS and BJP leaders held in Lucknow on Wednesday. The meeting was convened by RSS Sah Sarkaryawah Dattatreya Hosabale and Krishnagopal. Office-bearers of different Sangh affiliates from Awadh Prant, Kanpur Prant, Purvi Kshetra were present at the meeting and gave ground-level feedback, sources said.

BJP national general secretary (organisation) Ramlal, joint general secretary (organisation) Shiv Prakash, state president Keshav Prasad Maurya, state general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal, along with party president and organisation secretaries of Awadh and Kanpur-Bundelkhand regions represented the party.

Sources said the RSS and BJP leaders expressed hope that normalcy will be restored soon.

The leaders are learnt to have voiced displeasure over the role of some private banks, which, they alleged, were creating the cash crisis in the market.

An office-bearer who was part of the meeting said, “News of action against errant banks and

I-T raids against hoarders should be publicised, conveying a message that the Centre was honestly implementing the move.”
