Gurgaon set to get its own university

The Haryana government is likely to set up a university on a 215-hectare plot in Sector-68,Gurgaon.

This is part of the draft development plan for Gurgaon-Manesar Urban Complex-2031 that was approved by the state-level committee of town and country planning at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister was informed about the proposed university and land earmarked for the purpose.

The draft plan for Gurgaon-Manesar was prepared for a projected population of 42.35 lakh by 2031.

It says the status of about 1,179 hectare situated on the western side of Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway will be changed from industrial to agriculture zone. Any future change in land use for this area will be prohibited.

In Sector-68,about 50 hectare had been added to build affordable homes for low-income and middle-income groups. Moreover,seven new residential sectors,three small commercial belts and two industrial zones will come up in Gurgaon.

Another 50 hectare near Dhankot has been reserved for dairy farming and existing dairies in the city would be moved there.


The peripheral road of Sector 63-A and 67-A has been extended from Sohna road to National Highway-8. The existing Sohna-Gurgaon road will be widened,with a 50-metre green belt on both sides.

Considering the scarcity of water in the area,Hooda said at the meeting there was a need for a mechanism to used recycled water for construction. Officials informed sewage treatment plants installed in Gurgaon would provide construction water.
