In the Dhaula Kuan gangrape case of 2005,the prosecution today received a jolt when a policeman,deposing as a witness,told a local court that the victim was abducted in a Maruti car and not in a Santro,as alleged by the prosecution.
While recording the testimony which cast doubt over the prosecution’s claim,Constable Raj Kumar told Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal that he and Sub-Inspector Maley Ram were informed by the victim’s friend Rochelle that the accused had forcibly taken the girl towards Gurgaon in a Maruti car.
We met Rochelle who told S-I Ram that the girl was with her and had been forcibly taken away by three/four boys in a grey Maruti car towards Gurgaon Road, the witness said.
However,the police in their chargesheet said the four men had forced the girl to sit in a steel colour Santro car and raped her for almost two hours. Deposing as 19th prosecution witness,Kumar said he had found the victim near a Gurudwara in south Delhi,where the accused had dumped her after allegedly raping her on the night of May 8,2005.

The prosecution had claimed that the four accused Ajit Katiyar,Danda,Jat and Tappe had abducted the girl,who was from a north-eastern state,around 2.15 am from Dhaula Kuan when she was walking back home after picking food from a roadside eatery.
Katiyar,a driver with a private firm,was arrested five days after the incident and was later identified by the victim in the test identification parade. Police have not been able to catch the other three.
