The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Wednesday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the continuing deadlock in the Parliament.

CPI leader D. Raja said, “The BJP led government and Prime Minister must be held responsible for the deadlock that is going on in the parliament. It is not that the opposition parties do not want parliament to function. In fact, opposition parties are demanding a meaningful debate on the issue of demonetisation and we want Prime Minister’s presence and his intervention in the parliament.”

Raja further said that Prime Minister Modi is the one who is not coming to the parliament to talk about demonetisation.

“Having said that even now we are asking how come some individuals could get huge amount of new currency notes? It is not in one state, it happened in several states. What was the collaboration between those individuals and the government or the Reserve Bank of India or the banks? We demand a probe by the joint parliamentary committee and this demand will be strongly raised,” he added.

The Parliament will meet today after a four-day break.
