She is a grounded and down-to-earth person. Her family is her first love and she dreamt of once being a part of the Indian Army and even enrolled herself in the Bhopal Rifle Academy. She is Divyanka Tripathi aka Dr. Ishita Bhalla of popular soap opera, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, who turns 32 today. Despite fame and fortune, the ace Indian telly actor carries that warm and simplistic persona. The actor remains unaffected by her celebrity status. Currently, Divyanka is the reigning lady of Indian television. She became a household name after playing the lead roles of Vidya and Dr. Ishita Bhalla in Banu Main Teri Dulhan and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein respectively.
On her birthday, we take a look at her decade-long career, all the highs and lows and how she managed to conquer the hearts of the small screen audience.
1. Divyanka Tripathi in Doordarshan Telefilms
After winning Zee Cinestar ki Khoj from Bhopal zone and being crowned as Miss Bhopal in 2005, Divyanka got an opportunity of featuring in various telefilms showcased on Doordarshan. She even anchored several programmes on Akash Vani Bhopal. Her stint in Doordarshan and Akash Vani boosted her confidence and she emerged a better actor.
2. Divyanka Tripathi as Vidya Pratap Singh in Banoo Main Teri Dulhann
Divyanka got her first big break in 2006 with Zee TV’s Banoo Main Teri Dulhann. In the popular series, she played the role of a vulnerable small town girl Vidya who hails from Benaras and gets married to a mentally unstable rich businessman of Delhi. Despite being new in the industry, Divyanka managed to garner appreciation from the viewers as well as from the critics and won her first Indian Telly Award for the show.
3. Divyanka Tripathi on Saroj Khan’s Nachle Ve and horror show Ssshhh Koi Hai
While playing a lead in a popular TV saas-bahu saga, Divyanka didn’t restrict herself. Divyanka appeared as a guest on Sanjeev Kapoor’s Khana Khazana in 2006. Then, she went ahead to bring out the dancer in her as she danced to the tunes of Saroj Khan in Nachle Ve in 2008. The versatile actor appeared in some episodes of the horror show, Ssshhh Koi Hai in 2009.
4. Divyanka Tripathi as Mrs.Rashmi Sharma in Mrs. and Mr. Sharma Allahabadwale
After Banoo Mai Teri Dulhann went off air in 2009, Divyanka thought of taking a break from emotional saas-bahu sagas. The actor believed that comic roles will help her in refining her acting skills. In an interview, she was even heard saying, “‘No actor can be a complete artist without trying his/her hand at comic roles.” In 2010, she played the role of Mrs. Rashmi Sharma in Sab TV’S Mrs. and Mr. Sharma Allahabadwale.
5. Divyanka Tripathi in Chintu Chinki Aur Ek Badi Si Love Story
Divyanka got into the shoes of sweet Chinki in the show, Chintu Chinki Aur Ek Badi Si Love Story, opposite Rajesh Kumar (still remembered as the adorable Rozesh of Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai). The show lost the steam half way and had to be pulled off the air in February 2012.
6. Divyanka Tripathi as Nikita in Teri Meri Love Stories
Paired with Iqbal Khan, Divyanka next appeared on Star Plus’s Teri Meri Love Stories (2012), a series of short stories about couples and their everyday relationship troubles. In the same year, the actor tested her comic timing on Sony TV’s Kahani Comedy Circus Ki. The varied roles helped Divyanka in growing as an actor and now she could take up any challenge thrown at her with confidence.
7. Divyanka Tripathi as Ishita Bhalla, fondly called ‘Ishima’ in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein
After proving herself as a versatile actor, Divyanka bagged the role of Dr. Ishita Bhalla in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. To play the Tamil character, Divyanka worked really hard. To adopt the perfect Tamil diction, she listened to the language attentively. This character required her to play the stepmother to Raman Bhalla’s eight-year-old daughter Roohi (Ruhanika Dhawan) and to do full justice to the role, she became friends with Roohi off screen. She played video games with her and treated Roohi like her daughter on the sets of the show. The real-life bond between the two worked wonders on the screen and the audience loved watching this mother-daughter duo on screen.
Apart from making her the top paid actor of the Indian telly world, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein brought a pleasant change to her personal life as well. Divyanka came face-to-face with her real life prince charming in her co-star Vivek Dahiya. The lovebirds got married in a four-day long lavish ceremony in July this year.
