Comedian Vadivelu has revealed that he was offered a role in superstar Rajinikanth’s film Lingaa, which he rejected because there was not enough scope for him to perform. The iconic comedian — who had been sidelined in the industry for almost five years — is now slowly trying to revive his stalled career.

While talking to the media, he claimed that he has rejected several roles in big films in the last few years as there was not enough scope to show his performance. “I have turned down several offers, including Rajinikanth’s Lingaa because they offered me to appear in four or five scenes in the second half. There was not enough scope for me to perform. I thought such roles would come as a disappointment to my fans who come to watch the film for me,” he said.

“I was looking for a script like Kathi Sandai, where I can travel with the story from the start to end. It had a lot of scope for comedy,” he said, adding that he considers his upcoming film as a “god-given” opportunity.

During the height of his career, Vadivelu suffered a major setback due to his political affiliations. In 2011 Tamil Nadu elections, the actor campaigned for the DMK party and when the party lost the polls, he earned the wrath of many influential people in the film industry and politics, as a result film offers dried up and even he was forced to stay from the industry.

As they saying goes, once bitten, twice shy, Vadivelu has no political ambitions now and his desire to join politics is a thing of the past. “I don’t want to talk about politics anymore. It is a long-forgotten dream. I am now focusing on doing interesting comedy roles,” he added.

The opportunities for Vadivelu is looking up once again in his career. The actor will be next seen in the sequel to his 2006 blockbuster film Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi, which was his debut film as a lead actor. And he is also part of music composer-turned-actor GV Prakash’s untitled film. According to latest reports, he is also in talks with the makers of Vijay and Atlee’s upcoming film, which is tentatively called #Thalapathy61.

The makers of Kathi Sandai have promised that this film will be rewarding for the fans of Vadivelu, who have missed the actor on the big screen all these years. The film, starring Vishal and Tamannaah in the lead roles, is directed by Suraj. Madras Enterprises has bankrolled the project and Hiphop Thamizha has scored the music for the film. And it will open in theatres worldwide this Friday.
