Dear Zindagi was never offered to me: Tahir Raj Bhasin

Tahir Raj Bhasin is getting all the accolades for nailing the villain's role once again in Force 2. The actor speaks about his films, his crush and the one star he has to share screen space with.

tahir bhasin, force 2, shah rukh khan Tahir Raj Bhasin hopes to do back-to-back films as a lead from now on.

After Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was targetted for casting Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, people were apprehensive that Gauri Shinde’s Dear Zindagi will meet the same fate as it stars Ali Zafar. Maybe, that was what fuelled the rumours that Ali was replaced by Tahir Raj Bhasin, the talented actor who had everyone’s attention after Mardaani.

While the rumours were dismissed by many, they finally died only after Dear Zindagi landed in theatres this Friday. Tahir cannot fathom how his name got into the mix. “No idea. I would prefer to not talk about films I have not been a part of,” he says, adding he was never offered Dear Zindagi.

However, he would rather talk about the film’s ‘Jug’ Shah Rukh Khan whom he had famously called his crush. “Haha, that’s a long story but for now I will just say that I always get inspired by him. He is also from Delhi and has been trained by Barry John, just like me. And he is a superstar now. So yeah.”

Tahir started his career as a villain in Mardaani and even his second film Force 2 sees him play a bad guy. Is he afraid of being typecasted? Tahir said, “I don’t think there are any negative roles anymore. I think we can aptly put such characters under ‘anti-hero’ tag. And moreover, I think two films are too soon to say anything about being typecasted. In fact, my role in Force 2 is much lighter as compared to Mardaani. Having said that, I am really happy that my character from the film is receiving appreciation. When you play an anti-hero, it is a task to make people empathise with your character. But I am happy that I have been able to do that.”

In a recent interview, Tahir also expressed that how he would often get emotional while watching a moving scene but will he get emotional while acting as well? “I think as an actor, you have to make yourself vulnerable to emotions. Yes, it is a tricky situation but that’s where the challenge lies.” He added that he definitely had apprehensions regarding not doing any film after Mardaani but he says he always believes in performing better than before. But on being asked if he considers his Force 2 performance better than Mardaani, Tahir said, “Oops, I can’t say anything on that. That’s like you asking me if I love my mother more or my father.”

What’s his future step? “I have set an agenda that I will take up more of lead parts with an interesting story and deeper characters. I do not want to limit myself. Want to do every sort of film.”

Tahir loves Shah Rukh Khan, if we may put it like that. But when questioned which actor he would like to share the screen space with, the actor says without batting an eyelid, “Amitabh Bachchan… I would love to work with him. His body of work is so impressive.” And as far as the directors are concerned, he asked if he can take the liberty to name more than just one, and goes on to name Vishal Bharadwaj, Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap and Aditya Chopra.
