Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha is the only actress who hasn’t locked lips in any of the movies and she says she won’t kiss on screen as she is not comfortable. When asked about kissing in her films, Sonakshi Sinha told, “Obviously there are inhibitions. That’s why I don’t do it in my films.”

After Tevar, Sonakshi will be next seen in AR Murugadoss’ upcoming action drama Akira. She will be seen fiercely throwing punches, roundhouse kicks and many other daredevil stunts in the film. Not many actresses in Bollywood have tried their hand at martial arts and doing stunts in their films, as compared to actresses in Hollywood. However, Sonakshi has managed to break that perception with Akira.

Sonakshi said, “First of all I would like to take that as a compliment. To get compared with Hollywood is a big thing for me. I am happy that I have got noticed for my hard work. I went through a lot of physical training for this film as doing action, applying punches and kicking high is not an easy thing. You have to be fit and only then can you do such things. Also, actresses don’t get a chance to showcase their abilities and action in Bollywood. In Hollywood, they give actresses opportunities to do action and other stuff. I hope with Akira, actresses in Bollywood would start getting action roles and perform stunts.”

Apart from doing high-octane action sequences in the film, understanding her character’s emotional feelings and situation was the most challenging for the Dabangg actress. “Getting into the mindset of the character was challenging for me. The pain, the situation she has been through and to portray that was not easy for me since I have never been in such a situation and I have never faced such an environment. And then, learning martial arts and doing stunts in the movie also took a lot out of me,” she said.

Sonakshi will be seen kicking the butt of the bad guy in Akira. When we asked if she has done the same thing in real life as well, she laughed and told us, ” Yes. I have punched and kicked someone but I won’t take his name.”

Though her films have had commercial success, Sonakshi has always been criticised for not choosing performance-oriented roles. She feels Akira will change that perception. “It sometimes depends on the way you see it because people have appreciated me for the films that I have done and honestly, the positivity has been a lot more than the negativity. So I feel those films were very successful in their own way. Akira came to me at a point when I was doing something different and was up for taking a challenge like this. And I have moved in that direction. I think the shift has happened how the audiences have been seeing films, the way they make films. There has been a shift in our industry as well. So this came to me at the right time. And it wasn’t intentional or unintentional, it was just that a fact that I got a great role to play and I went ahead with it.

Sonakshi was also criticised for her weight after her debut film Dabangg with Salman Khan. But the criticism didn’t affect the actress or her work at any point. “Honestly, I don’t pay attention to that as much. I don’t believe it affects me in any way. I am someone who has always portrayed a very healthy body image and I will continue to do so irrespective of what people write about me or say about me. It’s not affecting my work in anyway. I have done so many things in such a short span of time because of how I am. I do advocate fitness and it’s very important to be fit. I remember when I was overweight in my school days, I could still run faster than the thinnest girl. I was fit. When I realised that I was getting unhealthy that is when I made the effort to lose weight. So it should always be done for the right reasons and not because somebody else is telling you how you are supposed to look and you should fit into these size pants. Who is anybody to tell me?” she asks.

Akira is all set to release on September 2.
