Every hit movie has a typical path. There’s a teaser. Then there’s a trailer. Then comes the songs, and finally you get the brain child — the movie. But that’s exactly not Gauri Shinde’s style of promoting her films. For Dear Zindagi, Gauri chose to do takes instead of a trailer. With four takes the director has been able to relate and tease you enough about her latest offering.

Although the film has one of the biggest superstars and a rising Bollywood actress, the director made sure that none of them was overshadowed. Gauri decided to not release any trailer for Dear Zindagi. Just takes. And songs. Reason? “You will know why” Alia said during and an exclusive chat with

Shah Rukh, on the other hand, seemed at ease smoking cigarettes, and giving witty replies and naughty looks at Alia whenever a journalist asked the 23-year-old about her chemistry with King Khan.

Gauri, in her very second directorial after English Vinglish, has delivered a Shah Rukh who isn’t a Raj or a Rahul. He is ‘Jug’ who doesn’t come to solve your problem by spreading his arms in his signature moves. He is someone who is there to listen to you, as Jehangir, the psychiatrist. A companion whose expressions are an answer enough to Alia’s innocent questions like “couples itne irritating kyun hoteh hain.”

If there’s one thing that SRK really loved about Gauri, it was the fact that without being too preachy, she managed to deliver the importance of a woman’s role in a man’s life.

Dear Zindagi might give a hint of feminism, but Gauri finds nothing wrong with it. “It’s an absolutely normal thing. I don’t know why they make such an issue about it.”

Dear Zindagi is set to release on November 25.
