This time Pahlaj Nihalani is in news for the right reasons. The CBFC (Centre for Board of Film Certification) chief is now the butt of all jokes for allowing Ranveer Singh to flaunt his backside, ahem, in the recently released Befikre. The self-proclaimed sanskari Modi bhakt has apparently turned anti-national.
In an interview with DNA, the CBFC head said, “We shortened Ranveer Singh’s butt shot quite a lot (in Befikre). Right now it’s just a glimpse, no more. What’s wrong with it? He is alone with his girlfriend in a room. They are doing what couples do when they are alone.”
Do we really know what this means: Pahlaj Nihalani is the new protector of privacy of Indians, especially at a time when the government wants to own everything the aam aadmi of India holds sacred: be it religion, food, privacy and even money. This is a huge turnaround for the man who sang paeans to PM Narendra Modi in ‘Mera Desh Hai Mahaan’.

As per him, the scene was retained because it was “just a matter of context”. We agree, just as it was with Shahid Kapoor’s almost pee-pee show in Udta Punjab or the “lengthy” kissing scene in Daniel Craig-Monica Bellucci starrer Spectre.
Of course, quick, smattered, little-little kissies are perfectly acceptable by Nihalani. Perhaps this is because it’s over in a jiff, after the sanskari audience members close their eyes whenever a kissing shot appears on the screen. Not seen, no harm done, right?
It’s been a month after the Prime Minister’s demonetisation initiative has literally driven the citizens of the country into deeper, darker pits. The economy doesn’t look good, people of all ages continue to die, many are still standing in serpentine queues even when the Reserve Bank of India maintains that our banks have enough cash, the wedding season has taken a hit, and so has the box office.
Trade analyst Komal Nahta said in TV interview, “People generally go to cinema halls when they are in good mood. With demonetisation, most of the public is struggling to make ends meet. How do you expect them to buy tickets for films?” (sic)

Just wondering did demonetisation turn this Modi-bhakt into an anti-national? Will we ever be face-to-face with the naked truth?
