IIT-Madras is the number 1 engineering college in India
The National Institutional Ranking Framework’s (NIRF) list of the top engineering colleges in the country, the ‘India Ranking Report 2016’ was released by the Union Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani in March, 2016.
The colleges were ranked by a Core Committee on broad parameters based on five criteria — teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.

The NIRF states that even though the ranking frameworks are similar, methodologies for the ranking system remain specific to their domains.

Given here is a list of the top engineering colleges in south India.
Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Madras is the best engineering college in India, with a pan-India ranking of No. 1. It is followed by IIT Hyderabad, with a pan-Indian ranking of No. 7, and National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirappalli, with all-India ranking of No. 12.
