Pune Metro rail project is likely to see a further delay with the Centre making a provision of mere Rs 10 crore for the city, as against the much more generous amounts for all other Metro rail projects, including Rs 603 crore for Nagpur Metro rail.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had submitted the detail proposal for Pune Metro rail in 2009, estimating the project cost to be Rs 7,984 crore, which was revised in 2015 with a new estimate to Rs 11,522 crore. The cost is for the two routes from Swargate to Pimpri-Chinchwad and Vanaz to Ramwadi. “The budgetary provision for Pune Metro will see a further delay in project. The administration is responsible. The city was among the first few that had shown interest for the Metro service but now 18 are opting for it. The state officers have failed to push the project,” said Shashikant Limaye, a former Konkan railway officer. ENS
