Two labourers died after a slab over the lift compartment of an illegal four-storey under-construction building in Phursungi collapsed on them around 11 am on Friday.
Police have identified the deceased labourers as Sachin Pawar (35) of Kale Padal and Ashok Kasabe (40) of Sasane Nagar.
According to the police,the duo along with three more labourers were working at the building in Ganganagar,Phursungi. About 10 days ago,workers had laid the slab over the lift compartment.
Today morning,five labourers were working at the site to remove the centering plates of the slab which collapsed suddenly and fell on them. Three of them managed to save themselves,while two were buried under the rubble. On receiving the information,soon a fire brigade team reached the spot but it took about one-and-a-half hours for the firemen to clear the rubble and remove the bodies of the two labourers.
A team of Loni Kalbhor police station took the bodies to Sassoon Hospital for post mortem.
Police said the building was owned by one Habib Bashir Shaikh. Tehsildar Sandesh Shirke of Haveli taluka,who visited the spot for inspection after the mishap,said the building was illegal and that it would be demolished. Shirke said action would be taken against those involved in illegal construction.
Meanwhile,members of the Phursungi gram panchayat,including Sarpanch Jyoti Badurkar,also visited the site.
