The Pune Municipal Corpora-tion (PMC) administration claimed its city-wide panel-level surveys to measure cleanliness as part of Swachh Bharat Mission has yielded results as cleanliness has improved in the city.

To improve cleanliness in the city and increase its rating at the national-level assessment, the PMC had carried out a survey to find where the city stood at so as to chalk out plans for achieving its goal. It further decided to conduct surveys across the city every month based on various parameters to ascertain the improvement achieved.

In the survey conducted in May, the civic administration rated 11 electoral panels as having the best performance which needs to be sustained, while 19 electoral panels showed good progress. It rated 30 electoral panels as having scope of improvement and 16 showing the need to put in extra efforts to achieve cleanliness. It concluded that no panel is in the danger zone over the cleanliness issue.

The survey was based on nine indicators that include coverage of door to door waste collection services in slums and non-slum areas, level of waste segregation, implementation of user fee-based waste collection services, clearance of chronic spots, grievance redressal, construction of individual toilets and reduction in open defecation spots in the city.
