The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had recently undertaken the project of laying a pipeline from the Khadakwasla Dam to Parvati and the Cantonment water works run by the civic body. However, now a part of the project has hit a hurdle with the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) seeking Rs 94 lakh fee before permitting the digging work while the PMC urging the PCB to adjust the same with Rs 11 crore dues that it owes to the civic body.
The PMC recently completed the Rs 175-crore work of laying the second pipeline from the dam to Parvati water works and laid the foundation stone for Rs 110-crore work of laying the 6.5-km pipeline from Parvati to Cantonment water Works. The PMC water supply department in February sought the PCB’s permission for road digging and repair for laying 2,200 mm cast iron water pipeline from dhobi ghat to Cantonment water works on Solapur road as the area comes under the jurisdiction of the Cantonment board.

After holding a discussion in the board meeting, the PCB has communicated to the PMC that it has been decided that the permission for digging of roads should be granted based on subject to payment of road digging and repair charges of the Board.
“The road digging and repair will cost around Rs 92,40,000. The permission for the same would be granted after the repair charges are deposited,” PCB communicated to the PMC.
The PMC has said, “The PMC supplies water to the PCB area. The pending dues with PCB for the water supply is Rs 11.96 crore till January-end. Thus, the water supply department has decided that the PCB should adjust the digging permission charges from the pending dues they have to pay to PMC,” said civic officer.
