Pune: Senior citizen loses Rs 14 lakh to fraudsters

A 68-year-old man lost Rs 14.2 lakh to fraudsters who promised to give back the money that he had invested in insurance policies while he was working for a private company.

A 68-year-old man lost Rs 14.2 lakh to fraudsters who promised to give back the money that he had invested in insurance policies while he was working for a private company. An FIR has been registered at Bibwewadi police station on Saturday.

Investigating officer SI Anil Kulkarni said, “The complainant has said in the FIR that he had received some amount after his voluntary retirement and has started a small business of his own.”

The FIR says that the complaint received a call in June 2014 from a person who identified himself as Deepak Bajaj and said that the money he had invested in insurance policy can be returned to him and for that some processing fee would be needed.

Kulkarni added, “After that, several people who identified themselves as representatives of the company, made him make several payments to some accounts and have till now taken Rs 14.2 lakh from him. He approached us after he realised that he had been cheated. We are now probing into the phone numbers that were used to call the complainant and also the accounts to which the money was transferred.”
