A resident body has written to the Pune Municipal Commissioner expressing its displeasure with the way the new traffic plan is being implemented in Aundh from Bremen Chowk to Parihar Chowk. They said that the PMC has given little thought to the entire project and seems to be doing the exercise only to make a show of taking feedback from residents while implementing the project. They complained that the original plan, which was to cover the whole of DP Road, was changed to cover only a short stretch of the road making the experiment unreliable.
“The original Traffic Plan was to cover the whole of the DP Road, Police Workshop Road, Road from Tennis Courts to D Mart and Sarja Hotel to Medi Point Hospital. But the plan was executed only on the stretch from Parihar Chowk to Bremen Chowk. This is too small a stretch to draw any reliable conclusions as the people affected form a very small sample,” said a letter written to commissioner Kunal Kumar by residents’ forum Aundh Vikas Mandal.
They also complained about the design of the cycle track, electric three-wheelers, pedestrian movement, etc.
“The PMC representatives collecting the feedback forms have flatly refused to accept a bunch of forms from the local people which had negative comments. This act reinforced the general feeling that the whole exercise is only meant to show that the PMC has made an effort to consult the public and not really act on feedback,” said D V R Rao of the Aundh Vikas Mandal.
