Taking cognisance of the allegations that were made against the Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Wasudeo Gade, for allegedly submitting ‘false and misleading’ biodata at the time of his appointment, city MLA Medha Kulkarni has raised the issue in the ongoing Maharashtra Assembly session.

On December 13, a Pune-based organization, Sajag Nagarik Manch, had organised a press conference claiming that Gade had ‘fabricated’ data on number of research papers he authored, his teaching experience, conference attended, among others.
“It is clear from the documents obtained under the RTI that the information in the biodata of Vice-Chancellor is not correct. The fact that he lied about work as a PhD guide, number of students he has guided, number of registered patents is serious, as other candidates were denied the opportunity for the same post that Gade obtained with this biodata. Hence, I am asking for an immediate inquiry into this matter and if it is found true, all benefits that Gade took as vice-chancellor should be extracted,” said Kulkarni. She added that within a month, the reply would be given by the higher education department over inquiry results.
Meanwhile, vice-chancellor Gade has denied the allegations levied against him.
