Pune: Drivers, traffic cops meet on road safety, better dialogue

IN A unique initiative aimed at boosting the soft skills and inculcating the spirit of traffic rules among drivers, the city traffic branch, in association with Maurya Trans Facility Private Limited, a premier Information Technology (IT) vendor, conducted a day-long workshop called Drivers’ Meet in the city recently.

The event was attended by around 30 drivers, including Road Safety Patrol (RSP) officer Bhimrao Gajare, IT firm transport head Rafique Nadaf and MD Ram Suryavanshi.

Suryavanshi, in his opening remarks, said that the initiative was aimed at creating a greater interface between the drivers and the traffic police. “The drivers face a number of problems and hence traffic police are their first helpers. There is a need for greater dialogue between the two which will further help the public. Besides, greater interaction between the police and drivers in IT corridor of Hinjewadi will lead to swift resolution of traffic disputes and ease the flow of traffic ,” he added.

Addressing the meet, Gajare said drivers need to be trained in following traffic rules which in turn will lead to congestion-free roads. He added that such meetings will emerge as a major platform to bring about a change in the mindset of residents on obeying traffic rules.
Nadaf said it is the first step in creating awareness about traffic rules and would help in traffic ideation and change in the city. “By bring together the traffic police and drivers, the event has already started the process of change.”

He further announced the commencement of a major soft skill development programme of the IT drivers in Hinjewadi, in association with the Maharshtra government and the traffic police department.
