PMC to undertake construction of 82 overhead water tanks at Rs 245 crore EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE Pune, AUGUST 29

The PMC has already made a budgetary allocation for constructing 15 water tanks and reconstruct six water tanks.

In its efforts to ensure equitable and sufficient water supply across the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed to undertake construction of 82 overhead water tanks in various parts of the city at a cost of Rs 245 crore.

In a proposal tabled in the standing committee, the civic administration said that a total of 103 water tanks have to be constructed across the city to achieve its objective of equitable water supply to each house. The PMC has already made a budgetary allocation for constructing 15 water tanks and reconstruct six water tanks.

The construction of the remaining 82 water tanks have been planned. The PMC had divided them into eight groups while floating tenders, but due to poor response, it had to club them all together and carry out the bidding process.

“It is proposed to give the contract to the agency with the lowest bidding price of Rs 245 crore as against the Rs 235 crore estimate prepared by the PMC,” a civic officials said. The decision on the proposal would be taken in the standing committee on Tuesday.
